What I’ve learned about stenciling your home………

………DON’T DO IT!  The only two houses I have ever owned have had previous owners who apparently loved stenciling.  At the same time I painted the last room in our old house, we sold it and moved and found a great house with more stenciling for me to paint over!  We love the bones of the house so I was willing to overlook it yet again even though there are quite a few large paint jobs that I have been slowing chipping away at.  If you end up in the same situation as me here are a couple of very important tips:

1.) Take your time to do correct prep work and sand, sand, sand that yucky stenciling!!

2.) Prime or make sure to buy paint and primer in 1 because you will have a bunch of coats

If you forget to do step 1 you will be left with a solid color wall that you can see bumps of the stenciling in.  Not a very good look and once you paint over it’s too late!  eek

Since moving in to our house in September I just finally finished our kitchen and a small bathroom.  The last stenciling to go will be the mud room!
